Interterrestials: Life Beneath The Earth

We’re starting to uncover life that thrives miles beneath the Earth’s surface and under ocean floors. These organisms use chemosynthesis instead of sunlight (i.e. photosynthesis).

These forms of life must deal with extreme pressure and heat. The habitat considers of minerals and altered rocks.

In the ocean, we’ve discovered microbial communities in deep oceanic crusts that cover vast areas. This is called the “deep, dark biosphere”.
